Neurodivergent HR Professionals: Diagnosis to Thriving

November 4, 2022 EDT @ 12:00 PM 1:00 PM EDT

As if being a dynamic, super-hero, Human Resources warrior weren’t enough of a challenge, but try doing it neurodivergent?

The term “neurodivergent” describes people whose brain differences affect how their brain works. That means they have different strengths and challenges from people whose brains don’t have those differences. The possible differences include medical disorders, learning disabilities and other conditions.

Neuro-differences are recognized and appreciated as a social category similar to differences in ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, or ability. ADHDAutism, Dyspraxia, and Dyslexia all fall within the spectrum of “Neurodiversity” and are all neurodiverse conditions.

Join us on November 4th for the first chat in a new series called Lisa’s Bees, hosted by Lisa Parra where she and her guests will discuss what it’s like navigating an HR career while managing a neurodivergent, hidden disability. They’ll take a DEI lens to the tools and resources HR professionals are charged with deploying when supporting nuerodivergent employees.

Here are a few stats that may surprise you:

  • Worldwide Prevalence: 15% to 20% of the (global) population is considered to be neurodivergent.
  • Gender: Men present more neurodiversity than women worldwide and at minor scales as well.
  • Work Performance: Studies have found that neurodiverse teams are 30% more productive than neurotypical ones and made fewer errors.
  • Employment: Unemployment for neurodivergent adults runs as high as 30-40% of total unemployed, which is 3x the rate for people with physical disabilities, and 8x the rate for people without disabilities.
  • DEI: Minority groups tend to be diagnosed later in life and less often.
