Conversations in the Workplace: Creating a Culture of Accountability, While Working Remotely

December 10, 2024 EST @ 1:00 PM 2:00 PM EST

Whether working in-person, remotely, or hybrid, the foundational first step in creating a culture of accountability requires getting clarity and buy-in on expectations. It’s important for people to know what being fully engaged in virtual meetings looks like and sounds like, when cameras are turned on or off, and what professionalism looks like when in front of a computer screen with a client. Accountability will not occur until people understand what meets and does not meet performance and behavior expectations.

When people are trained to respectfully speak up whenever the ball is dropped, when breakdowns occur, and when behaviors cross the line, they voice concerns in a way that issues get identified so ownership is established and problems are resolved. Once people develop the skill to safely navigate these difficult conversations, a culture of accountability is created.

Implement a process for establishing clarity around expectations and for getting buy-in within teams and throughout your organization. Train people to hold accountability conversations by implementing a safe conversations communication framework.

Learn to:

• Develop dialogue that overcomes resistance while holding people accountable.
• Safely address behaviors that hinder individual, team, and organizational success.
• Establish a baseline of professional trust that fosters engagement and inclusion.
• Increase team engagement, performance, and productivity.
• Create safety while decreasing workplace tension.
